A day in the life of a DM
Posted On: 07/16/2007 08:33:59

So today was the start of a new week and what a start it was! I got up at 07.00 with the sound of some birds tjilping on a magnificant morning, starting at 20°C (for the record: that's not normal here in Belgium). Had a light breakfast and went for my morning run, (I know this sounds like I do this every day but in reality it has been 2 weeks ago and it was hurting like hell, but I'm not going to say that cuz' it will spoil the optimism I planned for this post), so heading back home I was looking forward to a cold shower and a good breakfast, just to jump on my bikecycle and make my way down to the local swimmingpool to arrive there at 09.30.

Having half an hour to set up 10 sets was plenty of time so all was relaxed and we went for a swim before work started (although swimming is our work isn't it?). At around 10.00 our students arrived, well students? Not really, a bunch of kids between 11 and 14 who're on a sportscamp this week who we will take diving/snorkeling every morning. So today I started with the snorkeling sessions, which are always fun because it's just playing games and see how far they can go before they almost drown , the rest of the week I'll probably only take care of the diving, which is pretty awesome to ofcourse, but on a more serious note.

So at 12.15 it seemed they, as well as me, had enough of it for today (yeah I like to push pretty hard on fysical exercise during snorkeling in a deep pool) so I again experienced one of the wonders of our jobs: seeing all those kids with a big smile up to their ears leaving the pool, running up to me to give back their equipment and leave with a loud: "see you tomorrow mister, thaaaaaanks!"

I wouldn't trade it for anything else

You have noticed one of the highlights in deed. It is great seeing the enthusiasm of new divers!

Cheers!
