Thanks for ther reply. The class is going OK so far. Kind of a mixed bag. We fianlly got into the pool Thurs. I had trouble with a couple of the tests. We had to to a breath hold swim in full rig 1 length of the pool (25yds- 75ft). I have been able to make it about 2/3 of the way (about 50ft). I keep stopping atthe same place, so I know it's mental. Right now I've got a couple of weeks to get it down to pass that portion. The othe part that was troublesome was buddy breathing 2 pool lengths. My buddy & I made it just past the 1/2 way point, but got our timing really screwed up after the turn &  we couldn't finish (I wound up drinking & inhaling 1/2 the pool). I will have to get these 2 parts down to pass. theother parts- Swim in scuba with no mask & the rig ditch & don went surprisingly well. Any ideas to get past the mental block on the breath hold swim? This one's driving me nuts. I tried practicing a couple times tonight in a single tank (was helping with a class) & got just a little further. I'm  maybe now only 15- 20ft away from making it.

I was out in the M.E. when the Gulf War started, had to leave for 6 months until it was all over. I was in Muscat a city in the Sultanate of Oman. After there i spent 5 years in the Turks and Caicos islands. Don't do too much diving up here, quite liked diving out of brockville in aug/sept when the river is toasty warm!

Middle east & Carribean diving wow. Must have been a adjustment  to the cold Canuk waters, Ill bet. I hope to get to the Red Sea soem day, I'll have to get in touch when things settle down over there. Too much sabre rattling with Iran & Israel right now , for my liking.

No, it was the actual DIVE SHOP. It was the only job i could get after getting married to a canadian gal and moving here after 12 years in the middle east and caribbean diving.

You are correct. The slow demonstration will only come as a result of practice & complete comfort in the task.

Good morning. Going good so far. We've only had 2 sessions so far. Tonight we will go to the pool for an initial skills evaluation to determine where we need to improve to pass the course. I spent 30 min practicing (only had a partially full tank) all my skills. After going through them several times, I think I got the worst of the kinks worked out. It's not what would be considered pretty nor of instruction quality yet, but I was able to get through them without making a complete fool of myself.

Now that will be fun.  I went down there about 2 years and did just dive.  Lots of things to do.  I took an ATV ride for about 3-4 hours.  Hourseback ride and yes dove.
