Went to a fantatic treasure hunt
I went to a treasure hunt held at Pennyroyal yesterday. It was put on by a local dive shop in Owensboro, KY to raise money for some local charities. They put out a bunch of numbered golf balls &  at the start horn everyone (about 80- 100 divers) went out to find a golf ball. Everyone was limited to 1 golf ball & the ball's number was recorded next to your name when you came out. Needless to say, with that many divers scouring the bottom, it didn't take very long to muck the place up. Vis was essentially measured in a few inches. After about 5 min. my buddy & I found our golf balls. We putted around for a bit longer & then went in to shore. An hour after the hunt began, all divers were to be out f the water. For those who didn't find any golf balls, there were a few extra that had been found by others & they were given a random ball. When it came time to give out the prizes, the # on the ball was called out, then an slip with another number was randomly drawn out & that # corresponded to a prize. My buddy got a really nice Genesis mask & I got a PADI Pro soft brief bag. They had everything diving from log books, regulators, wet suits, gear bags, masks, fins, snorkels, BCD's, lights..... just about anything you could imagine. They also had raffles for an AL80 tank & diving artwork. the entry fee for the hunt was $30 up until a week before the hunt started & then $40 the day of the hunt. besides entry into the quarry & the hunt, they also supplied lunch for everyone. All in all I think mot everyone had a great time. The dive shop staff really went out of their way to make it a big success. I will do it again next year, if I'm able.

There is another treasure hunt being put on by another group that teaches injured veterans to dive as therapy. It will be held at Cerulean, though on Aug 8th.
