Maybe a little bit of history first. The USS Liberty was a cargo ship, torpedoed by the Japanese submarine in January 1942, World War II. The ship was seriously damaged and they tried to toe it to Singaraya, hoping they could repair it but The Liberty beached in Tulamben because it was taking too much water. Then, in 1963, there was an eruption caused by the mother of all mountains in Bali, the Gunung Agung with the result that the ship rolled to his final resting place. Just a few meters from the shore of Tulamben Bay.

Also last time when I went diving with my German guests. Before going to Menjangan they wanted to take it easy due to a bad stomach. A present somewhere from Ambon they told me. Anyway, back to the diving… We went into the water with 31°C water temperature at 10AM. Just before the other guest arrive. Good visibility. Lots of coral and fish of course. Ghost Pipe Fish just before the stern (16m) and at the bow (25). Large school of Jackfish swimming in big circles. Pygmy Seahorse, a lonesome Barracuda, Yellow Leaf Scorpion fish. Large Groupers, Longfin Bannerfish, Blue Spotted Stingray, Surgeonfish, Nudibranch, Scorpionfish, Lionfish and some Garden Eel at the end of the dive and many many more. Even the Mola Mola is spotted several times down there…
No wonder that it’s the most famous dive site in Bali. Once again… for people that never dived before, this is the perfect spot for doing the Discover Scuba Diving Program. Just practicing some skills just before the actual dive and then start exploring the amazing underwater world…
