Diving. Snorkeling. Snow Skiing. Hiking. Biking. Boats. Swimming. Anything outside. Dogs.

Yep, I Netflix a ton of movies.

The heavier the better. Although I do like funk and some country (just the old-school twangy stuff).

The best books I have ever read are the first three Tarzan books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, and The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown would round out my top five.

Too many to list.

Not much. But here is a brief list of things that annoy me: polluted water, gas prices, air tank running low, expensive airfare, arrogance, long surface swim, guys in speedos, guys in general, mushrooms, hot beer, flat coke, people who have really good gear but don't take care of it, people who have no sense of humor, cold water, wet towels, sunburn, sand in my crack, sand in her crack, strong currents, mosquitoes, horse flies, people who are always in a hurry, people who are always on their cell phone, you know when you are just in the mood for breakfast, but can't find a single restaurant that's open in the morning, manipulative people, weak coffee, hangnails, hangovers... This list could go on and on, but I feel like I'm rambling and complaining, which annoys me too. So are these turn ons and offs just supposed to be dive related?

I just moved back down south from Montana. Not too much diving up there. The skiing is great, though. The first thing I unpacked was my SCUBA gear, now that I'm closer to warmer waters. The local dive shop here is very active, I look forward to hanging out with them.

I've almost decided on a CDC program in Pattaya, unless the diving is much better in Phuket...How do you pronounce Phuket anyway???

You say the name of the island like this: pook-et.

In my opinion (and that of most others involved in the industry here), the quality of the diving on the Andaman Sea side (Phuket and nearby areas) is far, far superior to that anywhere in the Gulf of Thailand. The Pattaya area probably has among the worst visibility and least prolific marine life of the major dive areas in Thailand. What makes Pattayta special for some people is that there are a number of WWII wrecks at recreational depths there. Also its proximity to Bangkok make it an easy destination for daytrippers from the city to get a dive or two in on weekends.

What op in Pattaya are you considering? There are some good ones there, so you can get some excellent training, even if the diving's less than stellar.

"I hope you went diving somewhere interesting. I've only been diving in the local lake, but hope to go somewhere better soon."

I went to the Bahamas. It was nice diving, but to be honest, I may be "Bahama'd out" by my trip later this year & read to see new things. I know where you're coming from about the lake. I frequent a quarry about an hour away. It's cold, it's murky,..... but hey, it's diving!

Just wanted to say hi.

Hi Tyler,

How are you?  Nice to hear from you.  I am a Nova Scotian working in Thailand as an MSDT dive instructor.  What is the diving like where you are?

Take care

Laura
